Expression of my Heart
Ruchi
Ruchi, a popular Hindi word in our weaving community, means "Expression of my heart," and is a sustainable development initiative in which weavers, for the first time, get to design their own prints. It taps into rural India's untamed fashion by nurturing their creative potential, transforming a community from exploitation to empowerment. Each piece of clothing, handcrafted with over 200,000 wefts, tells the story of its creator, complete with emotions, dreams, and personality.
Rural men and women with, at best, the rudiments of an education have stunned the world with original designs that rival the calibre of global professionals thanks to the initiative. This social innovation has uniquely preserved the dying age-old art of hand weaving by reinvigorating weaving passion through unfiltered expression.
